Case Study of Mohanagar Ideal School
Introduction: The education system of Bangladesh is divided into three levels i.e: Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary and Tertiary. The government of Bangladesh operates many schools in the primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels. There are also some private institutions in all the levels. Each level has some ideologies and they have different education rules and regulations, systems and norms. Their testing systems, class managements, evaluations, class room environment are totally different from one another. The teaching method, evolution system, class room environment differ from institution to institution, area to area, city to city, town to town and authority to authority.
Objectives: The overall approach of the study has been investigative, aiming to ‘highlight the real feature of the Secondary Education System of Bangladesh’. Similarly, to find out the real features, teaching methods, testing systems, class room environment and academic procedure of Bangladeshi Secondary School, I have taken the survey and tried to give the authentic information of the institution and its curricular activities. So, I have visited Mohanagar Ideal School situated at Mugdapara, Dhaka.
Data Collection Method: To collect all the internal and external information of the institution, I have visited the institution for several times and collected the real information. I have also talked with the teachers, students, headmaster, principal and the authorities of the institution. After visiting there I have found that all of them are so much cordial. They helped me a lot to do my research successful. I am really grateful to them.
Data Analysis: Mohanagar Ideal School is located at 44, North Mugdapara, Dhaka, 1214. It was established in 2007 by a group of experienced and famous teachers who were the ex- teachers of National Ideal School. The slogan of the school is ‘Eso Alokito Manush Hoi (Come to be Enlightened Person)’. The adviser of the institution is Prof. Lieutenant Colonel Mostakh Ahmed who was the ex- Principal of Comilla Victoria College. Its School Code is 1308 and College Code is 1131 and EIIN – 134579
At present the school has two large campuses consisting of 5 and 4 multistoried buildings. The school has primary, secondary and higher secondary sections including play to class XII. There are almost 1600 students and 110 teachers in all the sections. There are two different shifts (morning and day) for male and female students. Each shift has individual teachers and madams. The Morning Shift begins at 7:25 am and finishes at 11:55 pm where female students continue their classes and the Day Shift begins at 12:15 pm and finishes at 4:55 pm where the male students continue their classes. There is an assembly part at the beginning part of the class where recitation of the Holy Quran, Hadith, National Anthem and Oath of the school are included. Then the main classes start. Each class consists of 30 minutes and there are 8 periods in a day. After 4th periods there is a short break of 20 minutes. There is a system of detention for the weaker students who do not complete their class work or home work. It is held after break time.
Each class consists of several sections with 35 students. The evolution system of the school consists of three term examinations i.e. 1st term, 2nd term and final examination. 1st and 2nd term examination bear 90 and final term bears 100 percent mark. There is also a system of Diary and Class Test marking which bears 10 marks. At the end of the year, the marks of the three terms are diverted into 100 percent marks and thus the result is published. To take special care to the candidates of JSC and SSC, the school authority arranges Model Test on every Saturday. It begins from the February to the October. Similarly, in every long vacation like the Holy Ramadan, Puja and Summer Vacation, the institution arranges extra-classes for those students.
Findings: Besides all the above information I have found more information which is given separately and gradually.
Admission Procedure: From the 1st November in the respective year the school distributes admission forms from play group to class nine. Then it arranges admission test to identify the qualified students and the test has two parts written test and oral test. In written test, basic subjective knowledge from the text books is given including Bangla, Mathematics, English and General Science subjects. The students who are qualified in written part are called for the oral test and after passing the level they are permitted to get admitted in this institution.
Admission Fee and Tuition Fee: Every new student has to pay tk 11000 for admission (6000) and session fee (5000) and monthly tuition fee tk 1000. In each term-examination, a student has to pay tk 600 as the exam fee. For the old students there is no admission fee. They have to only pay tk 5000 as their session fee. All students have to collect the educational instruments like Diary, Class Work Paper, Class Test paper, School Uniform etc. from the office of the school and for that purpose they have to pay extra payment.
Punishment System: If any student misses any class he/she has to give an application with tk 50 as the fine if he/she is unable to show the proper cause of absence. There is no use of any physical punishment. If any student breaks the rule of the institution, he/she is given warning or their parents are called in the office. If the case is very major, he/she is given TC from the school. The school is very strict to maintain punctuality and morality.
Co-curricular Activities: Besides the academic activities the institution always arranges many co-curricular activities like – Study Tour, Cultural Program, Annual Sports, Science Fair, and Farewell Program. There is also a school magazine named “Abogahan” which is published in every year where teachers and students participate actively and submit their writings.
Teachers’ Qualifications: All the teachers are appointed with hons and masters degree from the respective subject with Teachers’ Registration Examination Certificate from the respective subject. Sometimes training programs are arranged to develop teachers’ quality and skill. There is also monthly meeting for the teachers to instruct them and make them more active.
Academic Results: The annual result of the institution is excellent. Every year many students in JSC and SCC level, from different groups, get GPA 5 and Scholarship for their extra ordinary achievements. They also participate in many national competitions i.e. science fair, debate program, and so on. That’s why; within a short time the institution has gained much faith and popularity to the guardians, the students and the teachers.

The Mission of the Authorities: To know the mission of the institution, I have taken a short speech of the founder and principal (acting) of the institution Mohammad Mamun Mia who is an educationist, writer and social worker. From his conversation I have found that the authority has some great missions i.e. to spread out education among the common people, giving religious education, developing morality among the students and teachers, providing practical knowledge and so on. According to their missions, they are continuing their activities and most of the sectors they are successful because at present the institution has gained much faith to the guardians, students, teachers and all the common people of this area.
Now, it’s clear that almost all the government high schools as well as private schools in our country have the same ideologies like Mohanagar Ideal School and their mission is to give qualified teaching as well as providing practical knowledge according to the world competition.
